A research process, while costing 100 HPD Per hour per process (80 if you're gold), will increase the version of the file you are researching by 0.006 per hour. You can run multiple research instances at once (Ie, you can run a 200 hour research, which will cost 30 AP to complete when finished, or you could run for example 10 20 hour research processes.
