181  HP Info Terminal / News & Updates / Re: FACTIONS Project update for April 24, 5 PM EST on: April 27, 2009, 10:44:30 AM
I really believe this rule should change.

Game updates.

The Hacker Project reserves the right to change any aspect of the game without prior warning. If you do not agree with the rules, please close this window and do not enter the game!

to what ?

seems fine as it is - if there is a exploit i would like it fixed asap without any warning.
i assume you mean the way this update was rolled out
3 month warning it was coming
2 month discussion on what it should contain
1 month warning of its features
2 days warning it was nearly ready
12 hours warning on the exact time it was being implemented.
10 minutes warning - that it would happen and that emi would be avail in IRC to talk about any changes that were not understood.

exactly where do you think this process failed ?

Was that a serious question?

Im afraid you failed at point #2 ("2 month discussion on what it should contain")

I would not call, being told what features were going to be implemented, then nearly all input from players regarding them ignored, a discussion, second time it has happened too.

No one has any problem with the updates, thats what it is all about as a developer, but i do not see how disturbing players' games just to get them implemented early is going to satisfy anyone, our only dispute here is the fact that this should have been kept for round 3, and you cannot simply excuse that by saying "it will allow for ironing out bugs etc". And don't even get me started on the virii issue 13

I agree totally....if anything there should have been a small 1 week window at the end of round 2 and before round 3 when this update was ready to be implimented that Emi could have set up a small beta testing just to iron out any kinks or bugs that may have developed and then when that was done roll out round 3 with a clean slate......this interruption of round 2 basically kills everything some people were working towards.....over 500,000 hrs of research basically shoved right up MY BUTT not to mention others as well. Now don't get me wrong so far I haven't really seen anything wrong with the update as far as functionality goes and it seems like a nice gameplay feature but non the less save it for the END(not near the end).

And I don't think it's up to Emi when the round should end...that should be left to the people who actually PLAY the game.

Question.....When you use your AP and increase a skill....does it take affect immediately on any current processes running or only on new processes??
183  HP Info Terminal / News & Updates / Re: FACTIONS Project update for April 24, 5 PM EST on: April 24, 2009, 04:45:42 PM
Just a 2 second glance but I see most of the various software types listed but what about the FW and PW Protects???
184  HP Info Terminal / News & Updates / Re: Purchase target IP on: April 10, 2009, 07:14:45 PM
In regards to IP purchase...can you make it that if you purchase an IP that you already have in your database AND have Admin access to it that when you purchase it again it shows that you have Admin access to it.....I have some duplicate IP's in my database....the first one I cracked shows that I have Admin Access yet it's duplicate says I do not...but if i click on the duplicate it shows that I have Admin to the server.

Hey Emi,

I'm curious if you have added the scan blocker as any defense against the Process Tracer yet or is that still a work in progress??
186  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Process Tracer -> new software discussion on: March 10, 2009, 07:10:19 PM
I agree with making a little more defense against said process tracer but instead of the IP cloaker which is for hiding your tracks hoping from Gateway to Gateway I would say using the equally rarely used Scan Blocker would be a better choice for a defense against the tracer.
187  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Process Tracer -> new software discussion on: March 09, 2009, 04:34:48 PM
I think it actually traces the process back the the gateway currently running the process no matter how many Ip changes that gateway makes.
188  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Process Tracer -> new software discussion on: March 06, 2009, 05:45:05 PM
I think this could be a cool feature to add but instead of limiting it to 25% make it that for every v100 researched you get another 10% added to the chance of finding the IP with an equal increase in the hardware necessary to run it at such a higher level with a v1000 giving you a 100% chance.
189  General Category / HP History / Re: 10 Revs on 1 server on: March 04, 2009, 12:56:00 PM
Yes that server is owned by me.....I have at this point no intention of starting any type of restart....just bored. I'll probably have about 50 on there before i'm done. This game has lost alot of the luster that made it really good when I started playing....I have not nor intend to waste my AP on cracking any secret servers every 2 weeks. So i have to fill the time with something.
190  HP Info Terminal / News & Updates / Re: Rare software on public servers on: February 27, 2009, 08:58:21 PM
I don't hack anyother top players. I got no reason and it is to big a waste of AP when you can buy all the software when you need it.

 Stolen Firewall Protect    12,642,989

Must be a heck of a farm...would take me almost 2 weeks to save for that and by the time you did it would probably be more.
191  General Category / Hi. My name is... / Re: Exousia on: February 13, 2009, 12:56:40 PM
Hmm, first Donn, and now you, i wonder why all the new players are being made moderators and not the 'older' original players...

No offence to you exousia, or donn either, but it just seems a little odd to me. You would think that the more 'experienced' players would have been given that responsibility. Just a thought.

I guess the 2 week difference makes the difference between experienced and non-experienced???

Well then do me this Donn....explain to me exactally what you mean when you call someone a free rider so I can better understand. thanks 1

Quote from: Psychology of a free rider

Many of you have most likely encountered a "free rider" in your lifetimes. Maybe your experience has been with housemates letting their dirty dishes pile so high that you lose kitchenette privileges, until one brave housemate takes down the 25 Easy Mac-encrusted, two-week-old plates to the main house kitchen. Or, maybe your experience has been witnessing a frustrated neighbor finally call the local town ordinance about fixing up the public school's playground. Whatever the situation may be, the people who casually sat back and waited for someone else to take action wholeheartedly earn the title of "free riders." Their mentality is that problem X will become so unbearable to live with that some person in direct contact with problem X will finally take action. In theory, the problem will eventually get solved, even if it is hours, weeks or centuries later.

This mentality might be excusable when it comes to smelly dishes or broken-down playgrounds, but it certainly should not carry over into the world arena. Unfortunately, the "free rider" mentality is one right in front of our eyes and no, not just outside of our homes or our dorms. Darfur, Palestine, Burma, Rwanda and Tibet all serve as perfect examples of the world expecting someone else to just "take care of it." Of course everyone says, "Oh, genocide? Terrible. Forced occupation and no right of return? Despicable!" Despite the rhetoric, nothing is taken care of. What is it about the need for collective action in times of genocide, ethnic and religious persecution and occupation that has the entire world population completely stumped?

You complain about no PVP in the game and about mistakes that Emi has made. We can all easily make this game a lot more interesting. Yet you and many others decide to leave that to other people. You are enjoying this game but do not care about the game itself. You could make some effort to attract more players to the game. That would probably make Emi realize that this game isn't dead yet (like you think it is) but is indeed very much alive and needs some updates and fast!

At the moment, always the same people complain about the game. Imagine we have 100 new people playing the game and they would all start whining also. Forum activity +200% lol.

I have mailed several new people playing the game with a welcome message and offered to help them. A while ago me and HJ were planning to advertise the game a bit more but due to my exams, that has been slacking.. Sorry about that HJ!

You complain about the fact that there is no PVP and at the same time you help killing the PVP by using all sorts of tricks to make sure nobody does PVP against you..

You my friend, are a free rider. Just like many other people in here who just complain but don't do anything about it and even help kill the game.

I am not talking about Ebolla, HJ, Exousia, other people in here who have complained too but have already done enough to help this game get better. So guys, do not think because you whine on the forum that I'm saying you're a free rider.

Btw, Ginjitsu.. Although we aren't exactly good friends at the moment, I'd like to hear your new plans with that Revelation. Cause I don't like to see it being researched..

Well i'll be honest....I don't really see how I fall into this free rider catagory but be that as it may.....Mostly I think you have me confused with someone else........I may have spoke about a lack of PvP in response to previous posts but I personally haven't complained about it.

As far as Rev goes....i've already told you EXACTALLY what my plans are with it and as of this time they havn't changed.

Donn.....all this posting of yours sounds like nothing more than sour grapes. I think your just upset that you can't just walk in and hack me anymore and steal MY RESEARCH whenever you want. Did i do this to block my BW so you and the few who could actually crack me couldn't just walk in and steal what you want....YES I DID. It's called strategy....it may not be to your liking but I just used what I had to make my position better....i'm sorry if you don't like it but that's too bad....It's funny you keep throwing out the saying free rider but basically from what I can see about your gameplay you just hack and steal everyone elses work  so wouldn't that make you a free rider as well living off the work of others??  I'm not aware of any research you've done(I may be wrong). If i'm wrong then please let me know...this is not meant to be a flame. I am asking in all sincerity.

You say by what i'm doing I basically killed PvP...well let me ask you this...besides hacking me everyday what other PvP do you do?????? From my understanding PvP means Player vs Player....when is the last time this game had any REAL PvP action going??? I would say it was mostly near the end of last round when everyone was jockeying for position in the top 10 before the reset. There has been to this point in round 2 no real PvP and while my setting up this "Repo" maybe contributing to the lack of said PvP play it was dead long before.

On a side note....what does FOAD mean??

Make a decent post first OK Ginjitsu? And if you want PVP, I'll give you some soon enough. Don't forget who you're talking to.

I see...I ask a couple valid questionis and get nothing but a threat in return ....Got it. Thanks Donn...that's all I needed to know.  7
