Title: Attempt to add a more dynamic situation to the progress of hardware
Post by: PlyPencil on October 30, 2008, 05:33:38 AM
This feature will change massively the economic system, I suggest if this feature is implemented it is NOT done so until a new round.

What I suggest is a dynamic price system for hardware upgrades

The formula is

basecost = 300 for Bandwidth and Hard Disk, 150 for CPU and Memory
N =nth term, HD starts at 5, BW starts at 5?, CPU starts at 250?, HD starts at 2?
x = n / 25 Rnd Down
y = 0.9 + (0.2 * x)

(basecost*(N/16)+(N*(4+(N/4)))) / x / y

It produces a graph like this

I would like to rewrite the formula so that the cost increase increases each time forming a + curve not a - curve.

Also every 25 upgrades (per a type of upgrade) you need to refit your computer with new technology, it will cost quite a bit, but upgrading is cheaper after that. Thats why there are the dips in the graph

Any suggestions? What do you think?

So, the prices change as you buy hardware?

Yes that is what I am suggesting

Oops, missed that, that's why I didn't get it thoroughly.
This'd make advancing a lot harder, no more iron-top places 'next round' with your suggestion, eh?

Thats the point, reduce the gap between newbies and top players. But keep the distance the same.

Now to super research you need to upgrade many times the hardware, making software research pretty expensive...

Making an update like that would make even more expensive!!!

In a new round, you wouldn't notice, v10 would be uber, not v1000.

Well, the only real reason that this would affect anyone would be for research servers.  For most other purposes, you could distribute yourself among several servers with lower-end hardware.
