Public is just a start, but if you don't want the file to be public but you still want people to be able to get it then you can't.

Also you can't upload to a server you aren't an admin to (afaik) so you can't share with someone else on a secured server unless you both already have it cracked.

I know that in Pardus the AP system is used for newbie protection, once you have spent a certain number of AP you are no longer protected.

Just a thought.  I do like the timer idea though because I do so love the inactive empty servers.  A week sounds good, especially with how little the AP system constrains the new players.

This is a fun one... it's a bit obscure but I like it.

(5,11), (7,13), (11,17), (a,b), (c,d), (e,f)

Each of those entries is a pair of numbers.

a = 10007
b = 100003
c = 1000003

Smallest prime number larger than 10^(n-1)

And Who the hell broke into my computer telling me I wasent allowed to use a virus i found on a public server...Its not my fault, I just found it there....

Whoever stopped my downloading of that 1.5 adware... I totally thought I was gonna get away with that too.  Had enough bw to pull it down a good couple of hours before the delete would finish.

Thanks for not messing with the rest of my stuff.

Note to self, must get a higher level log deleter.

PS, Nice with the copy/paste on the logs, but I know I had one IP Cloaker running so there's no way it got stopped three times  5

Heh, I'm only buying the .1 to .11 IP's too, so hopefully any noob worth their salt has already downloaded something at least .12 or .111 from the public servers.

I didn't even think of that functionality for IP change... wow.

I'm on the bandwagon now... that is very, very broken.
383  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Allow Access on: July 22, 2008, 01:37:22 PM
I think there should be some way to allow a person access to a server.  Maybe only servers you own, maybe a server you have admin to (although that could get abused pretty easily, people start selling other people's IP's and accesses to others... but then again you could give your newer friend access to an inactive server you found and use that to help give him stuff... I dunno)

This could either be done with some sort of password functionality (which would make sense... set the pass and give it to someone so they don't have to crack to get in to the server) or by some sort of allow access function (X and Y are allowed access to server Z, kind of like a whitelist of people that you trust to let in to a certain server)

I say this because of the recent push by Noseedam and others for a noob repository server.  If you want people to be able to upload to the server to distribute software, you would either have to drop the protection versions for a while so they can get in, or they would just have to be strong enough to get in on their own.

My initial thought is that you could have the server dynamically generate a passcode that allows access, and once that code is used it cannot be used by another person for access.  Then, if you change the password on the server or anything you have to re-issue passcodes to everyone you want to have access again.  This allows for password-like functionality while trying to keep it from being abused... maybe even have the passcode tailored to the person's name that you are giving access to, to try and keep people from selling passcodes to other players.

Araeus, if they've got no logs at all, you're probably in the clear, but if they do, ganking new players isn't cool. I've definitely been delivering karmic retribution to anyone I find doing that, and I suggest other players do the same.

Yeah, most of the ones I'm finding have no logs at all, sometimes they aren't even running firewall and password protects when I break in... so hopefully they are inactive...

I'm glad this is here... I'm only dropping viruses on servers that have no logs in them besides my "admin logged in from XXX" log after I crack... but every now and then I wonder if I'm completely douching out some new player that isn't doing anything... are new player IP's excluded from the IP purchase?
387  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Process locking on: July 22, 2008, 10:34:24 AM
This seems like it would be pretty cheap... a higher player could just lock processes on a newer players machine and the newer player can't do anything about it.

Wait WHAT?
389  HP Info Terminal / F.A.Q. / Re: Program effects on: July 21, 2008, 08:29:20 PM
Most of them are listed in the game guide, but yes there have been times that I would like to have a listing of the true effects of programs.

I know what an encryptor does, for instance, but how does that impact all aspects of gameplay.  If a virus is encrypted can I still AV it?  If it is hidden do I have to unhide it first?

General stuff like that.
390  HP Info Terminal / F.A.Q. / Mutliple password cracks? on: July 21, 2008, 07:05:59 PM
I looked around and couldn't find a quick answer so I figure I'll go ahead and ask.

If I run multiple password crackers can I break multiple servers at once?
