My sweet Eleonore, show no fear, for the fearful riders are all ear, and they smell and tastes every tear. But more importantly: They aren't here! Therefore there is no reason to fear. Not until they ride again, my dear.

It's a mid 1990's hacker movie IIRC. I suggest a British Sitcom called "The IT Crowd". They have a lot of the episodes up on YouTube if you want to go look. The majority of the jokes are IT department related.

William Gibson - complete works. As far as computer games - Zork (the text game series!) For some reason which I do not quite understand every true geek I've ever met has had a fascination with the film Godzilla (I refer to the 1954 version) I don't know why... it's just a fact I've noticed.

You can watch the entire Hackers movie on YouTube ( http://www.youtube.com/user/Smackthegisbon?ob=1). I still need to read Neuromancer, but it's near the top of my list.

Here let me do you a favour... knocks down all the stuff on the top of the list and hands ZacQuicksilver a dodgy copy of NeuromancerThere, much better like that. On the top of the list as it should be.

Sorry, but there's three books in front of it right now, and they're all textbooks for classes I'm taking.

Speaking of Gibson, has anyone read any other of his works? This includes the other two books in the Sprawl Trilogy or some of his more modern stuff? I've read Neuromancer myself, and I actually do want to give it a second readthrough once I get my hands on my copy again, but the bookstores I visit only have his (I think) most recent novel on the shelf. I could order it, but I guess it'd be nice to have an opinion before I go spending money. There's also the Dune series if we're diving into sci-fi. I couldn't really get into Star Wars/Star Trek, but Dune? I'm halfway through Hunters of Dune, the younger Herbert has a writing style nearly as effective as his father.

I've also read the following:
Count Zero Mona lisa overdrive Burning chrome
They of course do not have the same impact as Neuromancer as they all build on the neuromancer world, but I found all of them to be great books to read. Excellent books, though not quite at the top of my reading list.
Dune is simply fantastic but a certain degree of lassitude gets to me after so many of them (which is maybe why I cannot be said to be a true geek!)

Im a little curious about Snow Crash.
Neal Stephenson wrote it. The book follows Hiroaki Protagonist, a Pizza deliverer in the real world, and a hacker/warrior elite in the Metaverse (one of the first virtual realities ever depicted, and the one Second Life was modeled off of). There's some cool stuff about computers and language, and several fight scenes that deserve to get put in the movies, both in and out of the Metaverse.
