Title: Can I buy another server and stay under newbie protection?
Post by: AgentE382 on August 24, 2009, 01:28:24 PM
I just want to know, because I've saved up enough money to get out of newbie protection, and I was planning on getting a server afterwards, but I just thought I would ask, because I would like to have the server up and running before I leave newbie protection, so I could have it upgraded, and have all my software on it.

Thanks for your help!

Honestly I don't think it matters all that much.  At the lower levels you really don't have much to offer the higher end players and generally it is pretty easy to track down anyone who hacks into your system.  Asking them politely to stop generally will work wonders.  You can also do an IP change if things get too difficult.

As long as you don't go around trying to install virii or deleting other players files  :shifty: they will tend to leave you alone for the most part.  Concentrate on getting some decent firewall and password protection and it will keep most of the other newbies out of your system.  I see that you are in the group [linux], they can give you a good start, plus I have put out some decent lower level files (which you have already started to download) that can help you out as well.

Keep your nose clean until you have the resources to attack, cover your tracks and you should be set.

If things get way out of hand a Hard Drive Formatting can let you start over software wise.

Brok is 100% correct, also the newbie protection standards are for each individual server, so you could have one server which is out of protection and another which is still under it. It depends solely on the hardware of the individual server, not the cumulative hardware of the player.

I also want to thank Brok for his in-game help.
I thank you both for your help, and you should expect to see me out of newbie protection and rising in rank before the end of the month.
