Title: Manage file transfers / Priority download / upload
Post by: siremi on July 02, 2008, 09:02:09 PM
File transfer system has been improved.

Important: With the exception of mega-corporation servers,  it is no longer possible to exceed the target bandwidth. If you upload / download from a target, you will only be able to use as much bandwidth as available on the target. Viruses may affect the available bandwidth!

So no more abusing newbie players by inserting a virus fast, you can do it but you have to wait at their connection speed  :5:

- downloads / uploads no longer adjust the bandwidth automatically, you will have to do it manually from "Manage transfers"
- you will notice a new link in the left menu, "Manage transfers"
- you have 5 priority levels, each designates a % of the available bandwidth
- priority ONE will allocate all bandwidth for the transfer. It will NOT take bandwidth from other transfers, so if you are already at 100% bandwidth utilization, then set other transfers to priority FIVE.
- timers are not reset, so you can switch priorities and not lose the downloaded time you already spent.
- to PAUSE a download / upload, just set it to priority FIVE
- to RESUME a transfer, set priority ONE or one of the others up to the band utilization

Important: If for some reason your bandwidth does not increase when setting the priority in the case when the target is another player, check his connection, maybe he doesn't have enough bandwidth to support your download / upload.
This INCLUDES if he is downloading / uploading something or having viruses installed!

Could you add a function that allows to share the bandwidth evenly?

Could you add a function that allows to share the bandwidth evenly?

You can do it like this:

- Set all files at Priority FIVE.

- Set first file at priority FOUR.
- Set next file at priority THREE.
- Set next file at priority TWO.
- Set next file at priority ONE.

argh, I just tried to set my d/l to priority 1 (Because I upgraded my BW while it was downloading and I wanted the full effect to shorten the time).

Every priority I set sets the allocated bandwidth at 0.1.

Now my download that was supposed to be finished in <1Hour will be finished in >41 hours. Yay.

Well, the DL portion seems to work-Im stealing someones firewall at 2 BW lower than what I have.

Believe me, I've clicked every link on that page multiple times to try to get my d/l back up :P

Ah, it's a new feature, new features take time to be properly implemented. I just hope that it doesnt take too much longer than the regular D/L time and I can get it fixed before then.

Where are you getting your file from? If another player, he has to stop, set priority V on all his downloads so you can take his bandwidth. Then you can set yours to ONE. You can't overload someone else's bandwidth anymore, so if he's downloading stuff stop it first.

Does this mean I could lockup my own system with virii to disable bandwidth access to others? Im semi-new to the virii process,I forget how it works.

They are talking about allowing you to split your BW between odd numbers of transfers.

Right now you can only evenly split if you are downloading 2 or 4 files.  Any other number and you can no longer evenly split.

Did it set everyones priority to 1 if they havent changed it? Just ran into a 138 hour Spyware v.1 upload-BW was .01,but had 2 remaining altogether.

Nope, it wasn't auto. The person you were uploading/downloading it to/from probably doesnt have as much bandwidth as you.

I see what happened now,I forgot I was maxed on BW (9) downloading something else-but I got a + .1 to my current BW (9.1),with the .1 allocated to the Spyware.

I had some problems about how to use the feature because I was looking under running software. But now I know where to look and for those who have the same problem I had check directly underIP Database. Its there.

Some other problems was about the download rate. It's kinda hard to get it to go as fast as you want it to.

You can only force NPC servers, can't force other players bandwidth (but you could stop their transfers to clear a way for you  :16:)

What's this "Dynamic Distribution" thing that i'M suddenly noticing now do?

It enables you to distribute the bandwidth among 20 different downloads.

You do this:

- pause all downloads / uploads
- select first -> set 5% band
- second set 10% band
- third set to 15% band
.....
- continue up to 20'th that uses 100% band

The download priority I thru V implementation is pretty unintuitive and it's hard to get multiple downloads balanced evenly.

Someone rethink it please!  At minimal there should be a "split evenly" quickbutton or an equivalent functionality.

I've had some issues with getting it to set the bandwidth to certain percentages... most notably when that percentage would be below a certain bandwidth (setting 5% bandwidth has never worked for me because of this... most of the time setting priority 4 doesn't even work it just drops it to .1)
