Title: Tracking Hackers
Post by: virus man on July 06, 2008, 02:17:09 AM
I don't know if you ever played Trade Wars 2002 or not but there was a guy in the game called "The Grimy Trader".  Among things like getting the PW for the underground and stuff he would also facilitate tracking down traders.

Now you may be wondering where I am going with this.

The Grimy Trader would not tell you where the trader was but only what ports he had visited and how long ago.

Could we implement something similar to this?  It would cost HPD.  Cost would be based on the power rank and how long since the hacker was at a server.  Then it would give that server (not the hacker's server) along with the general time stamp.  Say XX:XX:XX +/- 10 minutes.

It would also be a good way to remove HPD from the game as well.

The ones using this feature are probably the big players who have a lot of creds. It would certainly make them spend some of their HPD but it will only lead to the big players tracking down each others. That will only result in one of two things;
1. They are forming a group and uses it to become intouchable
2. They are not in a group but several groups and will start the first massive hacker war.
