Title: Major PvP update: PvP board & hacker missions
Post by: siremi on January 05, 2011, 09:07:10 PM
Hello everyone, and Happy New Year!!!  :17:

We have a major update today in the PvP Revolution project.

There is a new button on the left menu, PvP Board.

The PvP Board is used to track PvP points earned in PvP missions, see PvP rankings and most wanted by the corps.

PvP Reward store will enable you to convert your earned PvP points into rewards. Converting PvP points does not affect your total PvP score and the way you are ranked.

When you go to a "Secret faction board", you will notice a new mission called "Damage Hacker".
Click on review on this mission, and you will be able to get a PvP mission depending on your skills at cracking.

Damage Hacker mission description:

We need someone to damage a hacker that attacked our servers.

Before we proceed, we need to know your abilities...
Please select the highest level of protections that you can crack, so we can assign a mission to you.

Selecting a higher version will get you more targets. Selecting a lower version may reduce the targets.
The target is an enemy agent belonging to a different corporation. He has negative standing towards our corporation.

A mission lasts for 72 hours, that is the window to do the damage.
If no mission is found, you can search again with different protection versions.
If a mission is found, you will be assigned to complete it.

You can only have 3 active "Damage Hacker" missions at one time.
You can cancel a "Damage Hacker" mission after 24 hours.

A mission can be primary (server is owned by target). All software / hardware on that server earns PvP points.
Or it can be secondary (target is a file owned by enemy agent). PvP points are awarded when the target file is destroyed.

During the pvp missions, you will gain the following rewards:

PvP points awards:
- disinfect virus (local / remote):
-> primary mission: 125% of activation AP
-> secondary mission: 150% of activation AP
-> note: disinfect command uses 50% of activation AP

- delete file: 1 point for each 5 Mb size of file
- encrypt file: 1 point for each 25 Mb size of file
- hide file: 1 point for each 100 Mb size of file
- capture virus: 120, same as AP cost

- damage hardware: 15% of HPD damage done, awarded in PvP points

Since this is such a major update, if you spot any bugs, please let me know.  :14:

God Speed!

Instead of searching for the maximum protects Sir Emi can it be minimum? Because I tried it just now and I got 2 6,000 power newbs...

This is a good question. The way it works is you input your maximum crack levels and you draw a mission.

Now the mission can be from lowest to highest of your choice, and it depends on luck a lot, so you can't pick and choose who you're going to attack, thus limiting the possible abuses. Having a limit of 3 missions active at one time and a 24h delay until you can drop a pvp mission ensures that you're motivated to complete the missions to get another draw and hopefully hit a better one :)

In time,as more and more people complete the missions and the victim gets a positive boost to standing every time he gets damage, that means it affects the outcome of future draws. Just input the highest levels you want in there, and hope for the best. Targets on the higher end will be more scarce, but if you hit a monster farm it makes up for it.

The most important is the standing, and negative standing will get you targeted by the agents of that enemy faction that you are negative towards. On the opposite end, if you have positive standing to all corps, you will never get a pvp mission on you.

Do remember that Barons, when collected, will get a lot of negative standing towards the corp that you aimed it at...

Oh ok. So how is the stock market coming along? All these PvP profiteering has to go to some sort of casino.

That gave me an idea! Sir Emi can we get rid of the limit of 15 remote host tasks on gateways?

maybe make it so it doesn't give missions to go after group member's viruses if possible?

Yeah, might be good to not give any missions against members of same group...

The limits are there so the remote malware attacks don't get abused too much :)
But if you have overload virii on different servers, you can start 15 taks / incoming server.

Adding a note:

It is possible to pass the AP limit if you convert into AP in the PvP reward store.
When you're over the limit, no new AP coming until you get below.
This means that if you gather a lot of PvP points, you may be able to install a very big file, like a big baron or overload bomb.
One of the perks of PvP :)

Cheers!

I know I was just wondering how serious you were with introducing "hardcore" PvP.

Title: Re: Major PvP update: PvP board & hacker missions

Oh boy, I forgot a part of the update notes

There is a new software called "Overload Signer".
It's available at True Light repository servers, software dealer, and will pop up in missions.

Description:

Overload Signer
"Takes ownership of an overload process. If the overload process is completed, the owner will get credit for the destruction of the file."

This software is used in conjunction with the new "Damage Hacker" mission.
It enables one to take ownership of the overload tasks that start to pop up after a server has been hit by malware and is overloaded with files on HDD and CPU / mem/ band overloads in case of virii farms.

The version of the software affects it's success chance. The chance is 20% by default and can go up to 75% max.
You can start several tasks on the same overload process. Time to complete is 5 minutes by default and it doesn't use any AP.

After you have ownership of the overload process, just wait for it to complete every hour as it naturally does. If you still have the mission on the target when it completes, then you'll get PvP points and the Reward Log will show how many and for what file.

God Speed!

Injecting / installing is not really damage... you could be helping him build a farm...

if you convert into standing, you indirectly get Ability points when you get a new rank

Well that suck since i'm number 1 on 2 factions most wanted list.   :bodyguard:

You won't be more likely to get targeted, it will be the same. However, if you got lots of virii on the secret servers you may get more hits on those virii as secondary missions, simply because there are so many targets...

In time,as more and more people complete the missions and the victim gets a positive boost to standing every time he gets damage, that means it affects the outcome of future draws.
this means that once all inactive players got pwned and no longer have negative standing only about 20 of those with SERIOUSLY negative standing will be left to choose from.

thats right - in a week there will be about 5% chance of getting YOUR ip from the mission

Title: Re: Major PvP update: PvP board & hacker missions

- fixed a few bugs with getting two primary pvp missions on same server
- encrypting / hiding will give pvp points only if the file was not encrypted / hidden before or encrypted / hidden with a lower version

- encrypting / hiding of a specific file can give pvp points only once every 24 hours

- damage hardware: 15% of HPD damage done, awarded in PvP points
i think this is way too much. when you do 100 HPD damage you get 15 PvP points which is equivalent to 525 HPD, over 5 times more. this can be exploited by friendly bombing. PvP points are in since 3 days and Alpha already has 51k which is 1,7 million HPD, while only 6 other people have more than 1k points. at the moment there is no point in doing secondary missions cos they are worth like mere 50 points

Title: Re: Major PvP update: PvP board & hacker missions

  Total points: 51,711

Yeah, but to be honest doing that much damage as I did to get that, should be awarded about that much  :19:
Trading it for HPD would be a waste for me anyway, I need AP more.

Post by: Derpaderpa on January 09, 2011, 12:45:47 PM
Yeah not really a fan of this. A week's work down the drain because I've had multiple PRIMARY missions on me. I finally save myself from one yesterday and then, while I was asleep last night, somebody slammed my server for over 140k worth in damage. Been a nice guy avoiding removing people's viruses etc and just trying to build up my hardware, etc only to get nailed by top 10s or the 100 million power range.

That's my main concern about this update too.

Title: Re: Major PvP update: PvP board & hacker missions
Post by: herpaderpa on January 09, 2011, 05:47:47 PM
I was already kinda down on this game cause I don't have a couple hundred bucks to throw down to buy my way into just being competitive. But with this update and the fact I'm getting shafted by those who have way more power than me, I'm pretty much at the point of **** this game. It's a nice system to kick out all the noobs and let the top 10 be the ONLY players actually playing. Course then they have to throw down less cash because there's less people to compete and the entire site dies because the 10 players left just aren't having fun waving their wads of money and malware nukes over the two or three noobs left.

Title: Re: Major PvP update: PvP board & hacker missions
Post by: Ginjitsu on January 09, 2011, 06:38:56 PM
Well as someone in the top 10...I don't wave cash around like mad....Although playing since the start of the round definately has an advantage over new players...what you should do at this point is get a good idea of the game and experiment with things til this round ends and then you can be competitive next round.

I too have complained about dropping big game changing updates during the middle of the round but as usual it falls upon deaf ears. Just keep at it and when next round starts you'll be ok.

Title: Re: Major PvP update: PvP board & hacker missions
Post by: ãłþħά-∆9 on January 09, 2011, 07:30:35 PM
Well it does spit out players in the top ten too, maybe power bands could be instigated

Post by: norill on January 09, 2011, 09:11:56 PM
Yeah, but to be honest doing that much damage as I did to get that, should be awarded about that much
come on, bombing is a pleasure, it shouldnt be awarded better than hard work.

herpaderpa, in this game new players life is much easier than in other games. firstly, they dont have to research because all is already waiting to be stolen, and software = power. secondly, newbies dont get pwned by the top if they dont mess with them (with this exception of PvP missions). and when the round is over there is a new beginning for all

15% of hardware damage in pvp points means for every 100 HPD destroyed you get 15 HPD in pvp points.
So that means you get 1 pvp point (35 HPD) for every 233.33 HPD destroyed.

The most wanted list is a kinda spoiler to see who's in which faction.

Since there's no real use for this list I suggest to remove it.
Quote
Q: Is a player with higher negative standing more likely to be targetted than a player with less negative standing ?
A: You won't be more likely to get targeted, it will be the same.

Perhaps show only one table with the accumulated negative standing ?

+17 overload damage destroyed 708 Mhz CPU, 44,247 kb memory, 3.47 kbs bandwidth, 2.56 Gb HDD

I dont think it works right...
I took an earlier attack and found it to be around 1 point per 425 HPD worth of damage.

Someone explain it more accurately please.

EDIT :
+11 overload damage destroyed 1,048 Mhz CPU, 65,429 kb memory, 5.14 kbs bandwidth, 3.78 Gb HDD.

More damage, fewer points?

The number formatting was the problem. 142,569 rounded down was equaling 142...  :4:
Fixed it so it would work with the real numbers and not the formatted ones. This will give the appropriate pvp points now.
