Title: Have you been infected with Virii?
Post by: virus man on July 10, 2008, 05:09:29 AM
Then contact Ebolla ingame.  Mind you I will get to it in my own time unless you want to "donate" 10$ or more then I will make it my top priority.

I can currently disinfect just about any Virii in the game.

Well since I will have to cancel any number of other operations to do it as a priority I have to make sure my ingame losses are covered.  Otherwise I would say 5$ or something like that.

Mind you with the 10$ donation as soon as I get on and see it along with the PM I will drop whatever I am doing, even back hacking people who tread on SGP territory which IP changes do NOT protect you from me, and take care of the virii in question.

So 10$ which with the current in game exchange rates will cover my losses except for a loss of time if I have to cancel a research project.

but you cant disinfect high-end adware yet according to *best-in-hp-service*

That is being corrected mr 1.0+ adware man.

Besides which the high end adware is not likely to end up on a private server due to the resources needed for it.

Although I am glad you finally took my suggestion and went to the adware instead of file-share.

haha if you think about it adware > file share

haha if you think about it adware > file share

Which is why I have never bothered to research file-share.  Although I might do it just to have a 1.0 sitting on my server /grin
500BW is what it would take at 1.0 if memory serves.

point is, none of the current servers can fit anythign above 0.3

interceptable by spyware, easily dis-infectd... -.-'

File sharing is ok for players like me; I don't have the money to force research, so my viruses are easily disinfected anyway, and file sharing 0.1 at least lasts like 30 hours (?) before it's killed off. The spyware is a problem, though.

Oh, and I like it much more to upload single files than having to manage dozens of adware viruses all at once.

lol overall adware > file share. Also it lasts 20 something hours for a v .1

May I note that fileshare requires half the resources for the same credit/hour gain?  You could be earning twice as much, if you're willing to disinfect spyware and completely stuff the server to the gills.  Perhaps if you damage the server after installing your file share?

Try earning money with a 0.1 adware. You'll notice that these don't last long enough to collect even once. :16:

mines still active and its been like 5 days  :confused2:

My 0.1 adwares only survived on player-owned gateways, those on public servers got killed very very fast. And I planted quite a lot of them; then I turned to file sharing because the download manager didn't allow more than 4 uploads (which is now fixed), and I must say that my income has skyrocketed because some of the file sharing viruses survive multiple days.

There're already 1.0+ around. Reaching this without sharing research is very expensive and since I'm not a member of a group I think I'm best off without spending money on research (yet).

It's beneficial anyway, because for the time when the group still exists, research costs are distributed amongst members. There's no point in researching everything yourself.

it's easier t oslowly build up a group with people you can count on, and maybe a max of 10 people in group...... and have those 10 work together, otherwise information is hard to distribute and keep everyone organized (and active)

i like small groups, usually cooperates better than large groups. But large groups can surpass small groups when and IF theyre active and helpful.

and above all coordinated! and they need to know each other well, which is why bringing in the ranks 1 at a time is best

Title: Re: Have you been infected with Virii?
Post by: Kingdutch on July 12, 2008, 10:59:40 AM
I think in a group 10 vs. 40 the group of 10 would win.

They're easily coordinated and the 40 would all have to share what they have while the 10 would do share it with a 4th.
Also the 10 would need up more room to spread out the virii they researched bringing the HPD earnage per user up more allowing more research.

OR something alone those lines :D I'd love to team up with some people although at this moment I'm trying to get myself off the ground which is proving harder then expected, I just hope the runway's long enough for me.

lol  :5:

I have a few virii that I control and they have lasted for about 6-7 days and they are all adware, the ones on public servers are a fodder display anyway since they become mission disinfections and if someone wanted the space they would disinfect those and the whole process would begin again, I love the cycle of virii extinction and evolution. I was thinking about going with file sharing, but I am currently searching for a large enough server to host it so that I can reap the rewards if only for a short time.

yup, and XRay, don't join a group, it'll just fall apart (UHA again, eh?)

I have a few friends that were/are in groups here, so they help me as much as I help them. but UHA didn't last long because of a lot of things anyway like distrust and lying.

I agree Noseedam small groups are beneficial because of the smallness of the group means better communication, but with large groups there is the whole thing about rules and if one of them gets hacked and swarmed with virii and such some of them would not do a thing or some members of the group would swarm the hackers and knock them out.

Yea and when you have started to soar just watch your trail, and be sure that no one will follow you home and always reap the rewards of your virii/missions.

Fileshare might be better for one reason: it takes several days for a .1 Virus Breaker to take on a .1 Fileshare (60 hours IIRC).

I can own your .2 Adware in 4-5 hours (and I do own 2x .2s, plus several worse ones). Fileshare is easier to set up, but easier to lose too. Fileshare is forever (or at least several days).

Title: Re: Have you been infected with Virii?

except file shares are also easier to be eaten by spyware.

c. Did they delete it?

I'm glad this is here... I'm only dropping viruses on servers that have no logs in them besides my "admin logged in from XXX" log after I crack... but every now and then I wonder if I'm completely douching out some new player that isn't doing anything... are new player IP's excluded from the IP purchase?

Araeus, if they've got no logs at all, you're probably in the clear, but if they do, ganking new players isn't cool. I've definitely been delivering karmic retribution to anyone I find doing that, and I suggest other players do the same.

Yeah, most of the ones I'm finding have no logs at all, sometimes they aren't even running firewall and password protects when I break in... so hopefully they are inactive...

in a way yes, in a way no.

EVERYONE'S ip can be bought and found.

point is, since its a pyrimid type of distribution, it is far easier to buy my ip than it is to buy a newbies because they will have 0.1-0.2 software (of which thousands of people have) and whilst people like me have 1+, and as such are far rarer.

Title: Re: Have you been infected with Virii?
Post by: Araeus on July 22, 2008, 02:14:07 PM
Heh, I'm only buying the .1 to .11 IP's too, so hopefully any noob worth their salt has already downloaded something at least .12 or .111 from the public servers.

Whoever stopped my downloading of that 1.5 adware... I totally thought I was gonna get away with that too.  Had enough bw to pull it down a good couple of hours before the delete would finish.

Thanks for not messing with the rest of my stuff.

Note to self, must get a higher level log deleter.

PS, Nice with the copy/paste on the logs, but I know I had one IP Cloaker running so there's no way it got stopped three times  :5:

I think he means that whoever broke in copied the log statement about the IP cloaker being stopped 3 times, but since he only had one instance running, it was obvious tampering.

True, but since the last segment from the ip seller its 0.5 to inf you are not longer alone in that category there must be dozens of people in that category there now. specially with people being able to download up to 0.67 (for now) firewalls and password protection.
