Title: Public FTP Download
Post by: PauloHaddad on July 10, 2008, 03:00:08 PM
I didn't find the answer anywhere.

If I download a program from a Public FTP, is my IP visible to others?

if you press connect on the servers and download, go to the "normal" public fpt without pressing bounce and press download it wont show you in the logs or in the process, but beware some people can change files to public and if you download that you'll be shown

download the 0.1 versions on the Public FTP of NPC servers and you should be fine.

If it is a default public FTP then no your IP is not visible.  But if it is a non-default Public FTP like what Nose does then yes your IP is visible.

again, bounce anyway

There's no need to bounce for public FTP downloads of the 0.1 files on the standard servers or for the Public FTP protection software on secret servers. You should use direct connect for that. If you bounce, you leave logs and the download process can be seen by others.

You should bounce for everything else though.
