Title: Newbie Protection
Post by: Serin on August 26, 2008, 03:19:19 AM
Hi, all,

Another noob question from me: When will the newbie protection end? Is it a fixed period or determined by hardware / software, mission completion? And how long will an inactive not login to be out of newbie protection?

Thanks, Krieger. Didn't expect the info is hidden in News section though, as when I started a game, I only check guides and FAQs, but not news...

It was an update. The game didnt start with it... Would be nice if Siremi post it here, so everyone can check it in the FAQ section.

OK, here's my serious question:

CPU=1100
BW=8KB

Here is my current hardware and why did I get cracked by someone? I think I'm still under newbie protection no? For more details: some people logged in my gateway, install the adware virii in the harddisk(I downloaded it a while back to use it on a potential inactive I found, but I could not upload it because the target is still under newbie protection), and uploaded a higher version of adware virii. I killed the upload process and was trying to get rid of the installed one. Then someone bounced onto my gateway and disinfect it(after I changed my password). So I have to thank the second visitor(or maybe they are the same person who knows) for what he/she did so far.

I have no hard feeling at all, but I have to know: is it a newbie protection bug?

You are not longer protected. As far as I know, when you hit 1100 CPU you are no longer with newbie protection.

A player is no longer protected when:
CPU>1100
OR
Bandwidth>10
OR
(not logged in for the last 7 days)

What one can DO on newbie:
- crack him / bounce / modify logs/ download / disinfect / capture / unhide / decrypt / set public / kill process  on the newbie

What one can NOT do on newbie:
- upload / delete / hide / encrypt / install

That contradicts then.:S

Yea, pritty stupid that.

The problem is once you hit 1100 CPU or 10 BW, your out of protection.

SirEmi, can you change that? (or the discription?)

It is ok. The rule is not eqal or less (>=), but less than (>), so if you reach that, you are out of the if condition.

Standard mathematical symbols. Cant be something else or Emi would get spammed by pseudointellectual mathematician.

/me thinks the rule above can be rephrased as follows

A player is still in protection when:
CPU<1100 or CPU=1100
OR
Bandwidth<10 or Bandwidth=10
OR
(not logged in for the last 7 days)

Ah well.../me goes back to his punny server...

You realize you just said the same thing in a different way?

CPU<=1100 = CPU>1100 as far as protection goes.  Same with the others.

The fact is my CPU=1100, which is not CPU>1100, and I'm out of protection. I have error in my previous expression so here it goes again.
/me considered the current rule could be rephrased as follows (but reality does not agree with it from my own example)

A player is still in protection when:
(CPU<1100 or CPU=1100)
AND
(Bandwidth<10 or Bandwidth=10)
AND
(log in every 7 days)

/me thinks the rule can be rewritten as follows to avoid future confusion

A player is no longer protected when:
CPU reaches 1100 or above(>= that is)
OR
Bandwidth reaches 10 or above(same as above)
OR
(not logged in for the last 7 days)
