while a leech installed on Exousia's Dedicated Server will have a chance of giving you the address to another one of my servers, perhaps my baron or my research server.

Don't forget the fact that it can give other's players' IP's also when you have it installed on your own gateway !

I wonder how that could be interpreted.

a wet dream ?  16

it does show you as 0 power

Which means that he is still in newbie protection if I'm correct. I guess he really hasn't upgraded his hardware yet

Whoa, now, let's not do anything that would require us to actually hack instead of shell out cash.  14

That was ofc the point I was trying to make. HPD seems to be the goal of this game instead of a requirement for hacking systems with stronger or increasing defences.  19

I've seen various suggestions to shift the balance a bit more to the hacking part, downgrading the IP dealer and the software dealer in particular.

Removing researched software from the software dealer will force players to hack other players to scout for software and/or research projects (replace list of best software with a list software of certain versions bases on the progress of the current round if you wish to keep the software dealer in the game somehow).
This new piece of software (http://www.hacker-project.com/forum/index.php?topic=1827.0) would be required to obtain software if it's not available for purchase anymore.

As I plotted out in my previous post the IP dealer can be replaced by the combination of IP Leech and LAN Scanner.

I'd like to add to the suggestion that a LAN scan can only be performed with an active connection to a private IP with admin rights.

If we'd have a LAN scanner that works similar to the nmap scanner then the IP dealer will be obsolete and could be removed.

Imagine this scenario: I'm looking for a particular server of a particular player, because I've seen a file that I'd like to have. How will I find the IP when there's no IP dealer ?

I could check logs on secret/public servers, but my logundeleter sucks

Do I know what virii he uses ? I could use virus identifier but little change it'll succeed and provide me an IP.
Put a spyware one of them ? Not the best option .... spyware takes long to upload and will likely be disinfected before I've had a chance to take a look at the logs

Oh wait ..... I've build up a nice number of hours on my IP Leech farm. Let's see what IP's it can come up with ......
D**n, I didn't find what I was looking for. Too bad.
On second thought ...... didn't one of the servers I leeched belong to that player too ? Let's see if I can confirm that with a few IP scans ..... BINGO !

Crack running .......

Hmmmm, nothing in the logs or tasklist that points to the server I'm looking for. What else can be done ?
Scan it with LAN scanner ! It might come up with another IP of this player, possibly the one I'm looking for ......

Wow, this almost sounds like a hacking game (instead of a moneymaking game).
Great idea I say  clapping

you going inside your PC ripping a RAM stick out and chucking it under a bus

Dropping a screwdriver in a running PC will do the job also (personal experience 9)

I really like this mission  1

It's exactly what a mission should be like.
It requires you to put in an effort, but once you get the ball rolling it has a great HPD/AP ratio.

And while you're at it: also for the IP's the leecher comes up with.
If a player is in vacation mode you can't even add them to the IPDb manually.
24  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Process Tracer on: July 06, 2010, 03:07:39 PM
Could you update process tracer so it actually adds the IP you fetch to the IPdb?

Emi, can you please add this feature to the virus identifier also ? I guess that would make sense.

The leader I imagine, as it sort of counts as his server...
But who knows! Try it and see mystery man!  19

Good idea ! But I already had some scans started to find my answer  16
Seems it actually does report the groupname.
26  HP Info Terminal / News & Updates / Re: New software added, changes to Nmap Scanner on: June 30, 2010, 04:36:50 PM
What would happen if I'd be IP scanning a group server ?
Who/what would it report as being the owner ?
27  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Remote IP Leech on: June 29, 2010, 04:11:50 PM
OK, it might a spoiler but I guess anyone who wants to will figure it out soon enough, so here it goes: you actually can install a leech on your own gateway and it'll spit out other players' IP's.

But it would require a little tweaking of AP cost and succesrate before I'd remove the IP dealer.
28  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Remote IP Leech on: June 29, 2010, 08:01:58 AM
Me too (I actually suggested it).
And it can ... if AP cost were a little lower and the chances a little higher.

But it's not as useless as you say it is, that's why I'm still wondering if you guys had figured things out yet.
29  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Remote IP Leech on: June 29, 2010, 01:58:06 AM
I've managed to get some pretty usefull private IP's.
Are you sure you've explored all of the leecher's capabilities ?
