PlyPencil, the suggestions you made are pretty good.
Using real names is great, people can relate to that. Making the whole HP experience feel more real, giving it a greater addiction factor.
As well as Creating diversity by introducing Operating Systems.

However considering your underlying thought;
I think this would greatly benefit the game by slowing down the game freaks who are on 24/7, the AP system does not do that well.
Here is where I believe you are wrong.
People are driven by the fact that they, first hand, see the effects of their efforts and investements. General belief; the more time/effort one invests in a certain area, the more superior one becomes to others.

Your thinking will remove the players desire to advance. As it becomes pointless.

Players would still gain massive advantages however as you said relating to real life makes HP feel more real. Look at this scenario

Now
Player 1 - Power 5,000
Player 1 - Power 5,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

With my Suggestion
Player 1 - Intel Pentium
Player 2 - Intel Quad Core Quantum Matrix II

Which would you prefer?

And im red haired, of course im rare :P

I was just using real names as suggestions, and actually I am a fan of windows and am an expert programmer. I hate macs but admire their security.

I thought mac was more secure than Linux, I stand corrected.

...and transfer all your credit card details onto the goggle home page,

and on a real story note, corrupts file tables of a 1TB hard drive  2

I intend it to be balanced. So new players who start at the end of the round will take them a long time to reach high power however the high rank players do not have continuous spiralling numbers.

If that makes any sense, im tired lol

Introduction
Okay the title would only be understood by someone who makes games but oh well. In my opinion a massive flaw in this game is that the numbers just get bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger.... This idea is to stop that happening and giving everyone a fair chance to get to the top.

Hardware Upgrades
What I propose is that instead of the game being run by numbers, e.g 1000 kb/s is lower than 2000 kb/s is that the game mechanics is changed to replace numerical stats with objects. Let me explain

Currently you buy upgrades for your server(s) adding a certain amount of something for a price, and it increases a number. Unfortuently the more of that number you have the more money you get which means you can make that number higher. I propose changing the upgrades so as the game progresses so does the technological market.

Day 1 - Objects Available
CPU - Intel Microprocessor - 500 MHz - Obsolete day 7 - Start price 1500 HPD
HDD - Maxtor Hard Drive - 2GB - Obsolete day 7 - Start price 600 HPD
Memory - Samsung SDR RAM - 32 MB - Obsolete day 7 - Start price 1200 HPD
BW - AOL Dial up modem - 5KB/s - Obsolete day 7 - Start price 1500 HPD (Maximum 5 upgrades)
-The bandwidth modems are upgraded instead of another one working along side it, it makes more sense in real life.

Day 4 - Additional Objects Avaliable
HDD - Maxtor Hard Drive MKII - 3GB - Obsolete day 9 - Start price 1200 HPD

And so the game will follow a complex time line, the events could be a script which generates random times for events or be a premade time line.

Computer Chassis
To stop people buying 1,000,000 (NUMBER!) Hard drives, the process of when you buy a server must have limitations. Also you can have as many servers as you like because within 7 game days the technology will be obsolete and the server chassis will be useless.

Day 1 -Cases available
Atari Standard case - Obsolete Day 14 - Start price 2000 HPD (+ there are no components inside)
-Hard drive bays - 1
-Maximum CPU speed 1000 MHz
-Memory Slots 2 (SDR)

Software Upgrades
Research has no limitations on so again the numbers just get bigger and bigger. I suggest having a time line similar to the hardware.

Day 1 - Software Packages available
Firewall Protect - 10mb - v1.000 - Obsolete day 2
and it continues..........

Operating Systems
In addition to the new software time line I suggest incremental Operating systems, also different companies producing different operating systems getting you different bonuses.

Microsoft Windows
+5% Speed (On all operations running on the computer)
-20% Security (All hacks on the system are sped up by 20%)

Apple Mac
+25% Software Cost
+20% Security (All hacks on the system take 20% longer)

Linux
-10% Speed
+5% Security
All software is given a 2% operating bonus on a Linux system

Obsolete Objects and Price Reductions

Every day as new technologies are invented components become obsolete and so are not made any more, but before they become obsolete they reduce in price as new technologies become available. Prices will be reduced by a percentage every day at midnight (Game Time).

I think this would greatly benefit the game by slowing down the game freaks who are on 24/7, the AP system does not do that well.
What do you think? I will understand if I get quite a bit of bad comments, I wont take them personally  1.

17 Hey as some of you know, well many have left, as few of you know I have recently been critically ill and hospitalised since early this year. I am making a speedy recovery now and I am back here to enjoy myself.

I am exploring the new features added since I left, and congrats to Exousia for becoming a moderator

But that can be bypassed by creating a decryption sequence, please note I own a self evolving AI :P

If you want a fool proof plan you need to apply physical restrictions which will only interfere with bots.

Been defeated by a successor? Been surprised by someone? Proud of someone's achievements? Post them here as a little pat on the back.

I will start, congratulations to the person who found my farm and stole 24 hours of profit from it. It only took 4 weeks for someone to find it. You will now find I have more protective measures around it  17

Hmm so you have a server you want to sell? Well your in luck, My friend is interested in collecting used servers is willing to pay you 25% (+/- 15%). Unfortunately he will not pay you immediately but can pay 10% of the total every day.

I also caution you to wipe any software you have on there, I have heard that he does not maintain the servers and just keeps them running.

Comments?

(Oh and btw your server has a 1 in 20 chance of becoming a NPC secret server)

If you want a strait answer just remove the coughs in my post and change do nots to do's
12  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Delete Servers on: November 09, 2008, 01:29:33 PM
Just a little function, I would like to see it possible to destroy your own server. We sell the parts back to the computer market as used so we only get 25% money back.

What do you think?
