I can only assume it's temporary, since someone could research a really hard decryptor/unhider and make everybody elses' lives harder. 

is there only one? The high version levels required to unhide and decrypt the root/os make factions seem pretty meaningless for the newer players.

I use a large armored (completely sealed) truck-like machine, equipped with a crew of 10 men who man turrets that are operated via a screen inside the vehicle to move into the radioactive zone, the front turret obliterates you and your suit, and I move the vehicle on top of the hill, claiming it.

yeh, a checkbox would be useful, especially if it was colored green, so it goes along with the current decorum.

tanis, you can recover a log using the recover button.
Modifying the log allows you to change the log to w/e you want.
deleting the log deletes the entry, entirely.

I then spend a month making tunnels under your hill, inserting explosives, and finally, blow up your hill.
I then scoop up about 2 feet of dirt and sit on it.
My hill!

I'm probably pretty behinf right now, but it had gotten kind of monotonous.

You can make money off of yourself.
It is a known tact to create 'farm' servers specifically for this purpose.
