This hack won't take place with one computer, one system. It's not just a computer hack, It's a life hack. I can't do it alone.
 Hacking goes beyond the computer. It's just an appliance, there must be life beyond it, or what would be left to find meaning in?

That could give a storyline for the ingame gropus engine
17  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Allowing to make research by the version you want to get as result on: June 06, 2009, 07:44:15 AM
I have been looking at the research page and now, since the results of research are given out with 6 decimal digits, I have brainstormed a bit and a light lit in my brain.

What about a little piece of code that acts this way:

- You have a blank box where you can type in the version you want to get as result of the research. If you fill it, the system will take into account the number of tasks you want to start but kill not care about the number of hours you have written in the box designed for that.

It would be like:

//Let's check if there is setted a final version, prior making it decimal

if ($_POST['research_final_version'] && isdouble($_POST['research_final_version']))
{
//if it is defined, lets drop the research time
unset ($_POST['research_hours'];
/*
*
*Now we have to add some calcs here (I do not have any formulas, so.... up to you, emi. Sorry I cannot help around this final stage.
*
*/
};

Problem: You need to define the version number for v1, v2 and other integer ones as 1.0, 2.0, 3.0......

I've noticed recently too, that even with 20% on the password break ability, the timer always starts from 1 hour. I could have swore the ability was supposed to shave time of that.

oh, now the faq is the bugs corner?

Had the *full* version of this ages ago and i've gotta say...its rubbish laugh

Wouldn't be half bad if the game was actually longer imo.

As LW said...Can't get better than Uplink 12

For another one, try out 'Street Hacker', its a bit different, but not bad.

dama, hacker evolution has got a level editor ;)
21  Hacker Project Café / Whatever / Re: Slow Connection. :/ on: May 31, 2009, 09:49:06 AM
I'd like to remind everyone that 99.9999% of people we interact with on a daily basis refer to their monitor as their computer and their case as their hard drive.

Fewer still would know the difference between Mb and MB.

I think the key problem here is that we get hold of these toys without even the slightest clue about how they work. That being said, I can honestly claim that there are few, if any, objects (appliances, vehicles, etc.) that I use that I don't at least have a basic understanding about how they work. I think we sell ourselves short when we don't try to gain a fundamental understanding of the tools we take for granted.

I know about it.

I knew there were Mb and MB, but I did not know the measure difference. The one I did not had a clue about were about KiB.

I am the computer guru (class mates do not ask the teacher) and I come with 2-3 mates a day asking me:
-Hey, my computer does not work
-It is working. I see the leds on.
-I do not, there is no image in the screen.
-Please, PUSH THE FU******* POWER ON BOTTON AT THE SREEN! Next time, please, remind the computer is the CPU, and the monitor is the screen.
-The computer was not the box, monitor, keyboard, and so on?
*I do go rolf at this point
-(Teacher): I think I will have to make another exam about computers and peripherals

I can tell about a mess with a keyboard and another one with a USB device... at the computering subject, when we had the exam the day before

Could i get a comment on this please SirEmi?

Yeah, I wish some comment on it too
23  Hacker Project Café / Whatever / Re: Slow Connection. :/ on: May 31, 2009, 06:11:24 AM
lol, I did not know around that uber low capacities.

btw, ISPs even confuse terms, althought. I have seen adverts with Mb on it, and others with MB on them, even from the same provider
24  Hacker Project Café / Whatever / Re: Slow Connection. :/ on: May 30, 2009, 09:39:04 PM
@gs 059: At my country you are being offered a 1Mb connection (that is the speed at the ads) and you get 1/8 of the speed only (around 100 kbs). Happens with any ISP on here. Ask krieger if you still wonder around.
25  Hacker Project Café / Whatever / Re: Slow Connection. :/ on: May 30, 2009, 10:48:55 AM
54 kps dail-up speed is pretty good compared to my old dial-up speed, only 28.8 kps. (that was before high speed internet was for household use)

You know what realy pisses me off, Data Collision. That slows down high speed internet by alot. Its when some data gets lost or rearranged so you computer can not use it. It causes your internet speed to go down by !6 times!.

Dail-Up, DSL, wireless (i.e. 3g) and satilite are not affected by this.

You can download some programs that will tell you you accual download speed. (if you have a high speed internet). Your download box might say 200kps but realy you are using 2mps. 1800kps of data is unusable.

For me, I'm on a 7 mps plan, my ending internet speed is only 1.2mps.

For any internet user, the real speed is 1/8 of the real offered, as it is mettered on the ATM layer, but you connect using the TCP/IP one.

I even remember the connections slower than 16000 bauds, and also I remeber the fuctional commodore 64 computer my grandparens have, or the fuctional 386 Mhz CPU I have
26  Hacker Project Café / Whatever / Re: Slow Connection. :/ on: May 30, 2009, 10:45:22 AM
Hehe, i dont remember anything slower than the 56k dial-up we used when i was younger, and even that was painful! though this 460k baud 3G isnt that much better most of the time imo 1

dama = /fail.

The real speed you are downloading at is shown at the "current spped" at the lower zone. The seeds shown at the right of each file is a average spped (it means you paused them for a while as they are so low).

So you have around 150+ kbs/sec, making the math it shows you have a 1-2 Mbit connection over the ATM layer. f**ky is the thing we are over the TCP/IP one...
laugh Im afraid it is you who fail bro  laugh

You trying to teach grandad how to suck eggs? laugh laugh

Neither of the downloads were paused, and you can safely ignore the speed shown at the bottom as its never correct in that addon i was using (downthemall for ff), Back then i never seemed to get a speed above 45kbps unless i was lucky laugh

Though i would have loved to have a 1-2Mbit connection when i was using my mobile phone as a modem (hence the 3G 19 ).

weird, I use it too and I use FF as the default brower, and I never got a problem with that seed shown at the bottom.

BTW, on the latest speeds of downthemall! or dTaoneclick the download speed shown at each file is the average one (unless I have missed the way to change it), and the one at the bottom and the one shown in the globe that pops up when you point the mouse at one of those tiles you are downloading would show you the real speed you are downloading at.
27  Feedback Terminal / "Bugs" and Problems / Re: Recover Codes Missions Log Deleter Version (Not really a bug...) on: May 29, 2009, 10:38:54 AM
I choose that method because an IP may appear in the log that someone doesn't want in the open, so by allowing modification AFTER the mission is completed, no-one can complain if their IP shows up in the log, just delete it again 19

ermm... dama, those logs do NOT longer contain any IP adress. keep an eye at the news corner 12
28  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Faction Missions on: May 28, 2009, 09:20:45 AM
"Accept all" would indeed make the gathering missions go faster..

Even be nicer to put them separate automatically. So you can choose to see all faction missions or only recover code missions/ s&d missions.

In another game I play, they just make an options tab where you can select what you want to see and how.

To personalize your game experience a bit more.

/signed to add BOTH the accept all and the checkboxes OR BOTH the accept all and the accept all S&D and accept all recover codes
29  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Faction interaction on: May 28, 2009, 09:02:15 AM
Also having different missions regardering your faction rank would be great. That way newbies would not compete with top players, and top would compete with top. It will also prevent having lots of recover codes missions with logs modified up to v3...

Perhaps also having a global board for the whole faction and another one for your own rank??

Regardering this, high faction ranked quests would also give more AP/HPD/Standing. As higher the faction mission is, the higher the reward is.

Perhaps even players on the high ranks would like to split the quests among them and reduce pvp...

Players could also go to other faction level missions, but getting lowered HPD at completing, and only the engough AP to have the same AP they had before staring the quest. Standing would drop 5-10 points for each quest you complete and you did not take when it was the highest ranked mission aviable.
IE, player goes to faction server and gets 2 quests for his 2nd level  -> completes one -> gets 3rd lvl -> completes 2nd quest with no penality.

Another IE for the other improvement: player of faction level 3 goes to faction server -> selects and starts level 2 quest -> (low penality is added to reward, standing would drop from 5-10 points anyway) -> completes -> gets HPD reward, no extra AP (-5) to (-10) standing.

Players could not start missions over their level, as it is supposed the corp do not considerer you engough "loyal" with them to do so.

In order to be able to select other lvl missions, you would have a dropdown menu with options ordered from higher level aviable to lower one.

emi, if you want KIS it, the corp would give you soft high engough in order to complete the quests with each new lvl (this could overload your HDD, leading to research unable to complete, and no way to select lowered rank missions

EDIT:
BTW, I do not think allowing instant pass changes or IP changes could be allowed. 48 hours pass change with ability of killing it at remote host. Command resources are gathered at the end of the change, and they are stockable. No AP is taken if the change is killed - but 100 negative standing points (for non gold and 50 for gold?? 21 ).

Perhaps command points could be used to instant finish research of speccialized soft at no AP/HPD cost (but a copy could be spawned the faction servers) or spawning inmediately new missions on the corp servers. Quests could even give command points from some faction lvl between 5-10. Perhaps adding the ability to change those points for a anti-hacker mission spawn (it would not delete itself if target changes IP) or a task kill one. reward would change regardering your lvl. it would spawn inmediatly at a faction server, chosen at random.

EDIT:
The target would get a message from #0 (anonymous) saying to the target a mission has been targered on him, plus the player who ordered it, plus the quest target.

EDIT:
Same faction players could be able to give away admin access (read only ones) to their own servers for the ones on their own faction. It could be used for bouncing boxes, or repositories.
