LOL I never specifically said I was declaring war on SGP, I may be a risk taker but I'm not stupid!... It was more a declaration directed towards the hacker that was cleaning my virii (and I doubt it's a mission when they are cleaning all 4 virii I have on a server!). Like I said should be fun  14

Doc.  I'll claim the disinfects as probably mine.  Yes, they were for missions.  I don't disinfect otherwise... Unless it is sniffer daemons... I hate those.  I've done numerous disinfects where I've gotten a mission for every single virii on a server.  Those are the fun ones.  A bunch of small Adware aren't that hard to disinfect.  My last batch was ~80 disinfects completed (though Ivan killed the disinfects on his virii... was nice enough to leave the rest alone  14)

I'd recommend pushing up Fileshare virii... Just make sure you max out the bandwidth so someone can't come along and dump a spyware on top of it.  They are much longer to disinfect and don't give as much HPD.  The 9.x adware are paying 100k and well worth the risk.  The 7 or so 1.x adware not worth as much but can be disinfected overnight.

I have seen a 1.48, 1.45, 1.38 and several 1.2x.

1.48 * 10 * 1500 = 22,200 BW * .8 = 17,650 HPD per hour * 24 = 423,600 per day

Lots of $$$

If I recall it was around 950 AP per .1 to install so ~14,060 AP to install.

It also takes ~54 hours per .1 to install so ~800 hours

May not be SGP...  Could be...

But most likely its the ~SGP MailBomb~ [public][Virii]     4.51963  Virus, correct?

I set up a public server a while back and someone was kind enough to donate that particular version to me.  Many a newbie downloaded that specific version.  Most didn't bother to change the name and therefore there are dozens of players running around with this particular software.

As for Disinfecting your virus's...  Well there was most likely a mission on it  versus just trying to disinfect to take over the server.

Not that I would know anything about disinfect missions...   shifty

Ok thanks.

I was asked in game but didn't have a clue  21

Ok, say I have 5 servers.

Which IP address is tagged to the virus when I do a collect and someone else has a Spyware stealing my $$$?

Is it the current gateway when I do the collect or is it the very first server I created?

Log Recovery Missions:

They can be found on the SECRET FACTION MISSIONS tab (right next to the bulletin board missions tab).  But you can only get them for your faction and on SECRET servers.

When you choose the IP database select the FACTION tab at the top.  It will then list only your faction servers that you know.  Choose one and then at the very bottom of the page select the SECRET FACTION MISSIONS.

You should see 2 Code Recovery and 3 Destroy Missions.

If someone has completed them within the last half-hour or so there may be some or all missing.  They get regenerated every hour or so (don't know exact time, but fairly often).

Code recovery missions are a great way to find IP addresses of the competitor faction secret servers.

Names can be applied by a player who researched it, but there are some applied when purchasing as well.  When you research your own software you can completely change the name so a "Firewall Bypass" could be listed as "My Favorite Software".

Advanced (Firewall Bypass), Special (Firewall Bypass) and such.

If you buy stolen software it will say Stolen (firewall Bypass).

You can delete your secret missions if you can't complete them in time with no penalty.

But if you let them play out... then you will penalized.

They do have long timers.  Decrypts something on the order > 100 hours and recover > 36 hours if I recall.

I had offered a while back a possible mission that might help in this type of situation (that is getting better software to the low-mid level players).... I think...

Mission: Acquire Software.  The player is instructed to download a certain piece of software from one server and then upload it to one of the public servers.

This would encourage the players to start moving the software to servers in which others could have easier access to it.

Because honestly, right now there are only really two players who have been actively disinfecting the secret servers.  That would be Ivan and myself.  I have had rather limited success, due to Dev Null  16 but Ivan seems to be doing rather good at it.  Perhaps if this were more incentive (i.e. new mission) to get the files and move them even the higher ranked players would start working on them.

I'd take it a step further Exousia.  I think that all servers should have a separate BW setup, Uploads and Viruses should be restricted to the current stated limit, but downloads should have it's own limit.

There are very few secret servers out there were someone could download the next level of software.  When I first started out I found dozens of servers, all with software that I could have used.  Not one though, was free of Viruses.  Generally I was limited to 5 to 15 BW out of the 150 or so on the server.  I ended up giving up trying that route.

Yeah we have discovered this is no limit to bandwidth on public servers.

The limit is applied to any virus running on the server.  In addition public servers can only have files running of .2 or less.

402  HP Info Terminal / F.A.Q. / Re: Can I buy another server and stay under newbie protection? on: August 24, 2009, 05:06:20 PM
Honestly I don't think it matters all that much.  At the lower levels you really don't have much to offer the higher end players and generally it is pretty easy to track down anyone who hacks into your system.  Asking them politely to stop generally will work wonders.  You can also do an IP change if things get too difficult.

As long as you don't go around trying to install virii or deleting other players files  shifty they will tend to leave you alone for the most part.  Concentrate on getting some decent firewall and password protection and it will keep most of the other newbies out of your system.  I see that you are in the group [linux], they can give you a good start, plus I have put out some decent lower level files (which you have already started to download) that can help you out as well.

Keep your nose clean until you have the resources to attack, cover your tracks and you should be set.

If things get way out of hand a Hard Drive Formatting can let you start over software wise.

Ah, but you forget Exousia, that Triadian just put the information out there for public consumption.

He will be dealt with severely by the inner circle.

Hey Tri...  Can I get in on the inner circle or are you going to keep it all to yourself?

Or Gold members? I play another game which reserves the highest rank and its privileges for paying players. Of course, if this would make Gold members too powerful, I'd scrap that idea. lol

Honestly, I'd prefer to not exclude the non-gold members.  If they manage to reach the maximum rank then all the power to them.  Gold members already get quite a bit more benefits over the non-gold members.

The stipend with responsibility concept is also interesting, but how do you feel about allowing "less active" players to choose to pass on the stipend and the responsibility and go "freelance" or "consultant" instead? This will free up servers for those who actually want to play that part of the game. Going back to the active roster would put one on a waiting list for a position to "open up" if they choose to drop "freelance" status. Of course, priority would go to higher ranks and then first-come-first-serve.

I've got no problem with that idea.

Of course less active players may be quickly passed up by the other players.  There could also be penalty faction points assigned to the player if they fail to keep their server clean on top of the HPD loss perhaps something like one percent of the HPD lost... or not...

405  HP Info Terminal / F.A.Q. / Faction Missions on: August 21, 2009, 11:00:10 PM
I was asked how to locate and perform a faction mission.

Thought I would add it here in case others had that question as well.

Click on the [IP Database] button on the left side.

Then choose the [Faction] button on the top.
-- You will also notice an orange (faction) tag to the right of the server name as well for those servers in your faction.

Once you have clicked the [Faction] button you will get a list of servers in your faction.

Click [Connect] on one of the servers.

Scroll down (or hit your page down button).

At the bottom you will see [Secret Faction Board].

Click that.

Now you have two types of faction missions.
   - Recover Codes
   - Search and Destroy

Both missions require specific software types.
   - Recover Codes requires Log Undeleters
   - Search and Destroy require Decryptor software

I would recommend beginning the recover missions first.  They are easier and much quicker.

Now.  once you have accepted a mission you will need to hack into the given server and follow instructions provided in the mission.
