Okay a couple of thoughts on factions.

  -- Membership --

           1. It would be nice to see who else belongs to the same faction and their current rank.

  -- Ranks --

          1.  Ranks are cool and all, but I think they should add a bit more to the hacker who achieves them.
--  For each rank you have attained you are paid a retainer of 100 HPD per day.
It's the Mega-corps way of encouraging that hacker to stay with them and to help out their goals.
-- Thus a Rank 10 player would make 1,000 per day.
--  The reasoning behind this is
to encourage players to rise through the ranks and to give a penalty for changing factions.
The higher your level the more the hacker is paid and you would loose that pay from switching factions.
It would help out the lower level players and encourage them to achieve higher ranks.
In addition it would be a nice benefit to the upper level players without getting out of hand.

         2.  Higher level titles may be limited to a certain number of hackers.

  -- Servers --

        1.  While you work your way through the ranks and have shown your loyalty to the faction they will start assigning server(s) to you.  These servers become your responsibility to protect and nuture.
                  a.  For every five ranks the hacker is put in charge of another server or moved to a bigger server.
                             1.  Only one hacker is assigned per server.
                             2.  In addition, If they get outranked and there are no more servers available the lower ranked hacker will loose his server.
                  b.  Special missions just for the hacker who is in charge of the server are now available.
                             1.  Disinfects for his server(s)
-- Special disinfect missions are available for the hacker.
-- These missions gain faction standing as well.
                                 a.  Hackers are also penalized for virii installed on their server.  A certain percentage of the income lost to the faction is is deducted from his retainer fee.  Penalty can not reduce the fee below zero.
                             2.  Special Research missions
-- Research on Faction servers are unstoppable but progress at a much slower rate 1/5 normal.
-- Research must be done on Faction specialty programs.
                             3.  Hardware upgrade missions
-- 5x more expensive to upgrade server.
-- Hardware installations take time and money to complete.

  -- Server Names --

                1.  While this could be more of a cosmetic item.  I would like to see more variety in server names and types.   The same name plastered to every single Secret server just annoys me.  The same goes with unlisted servers.
                         a.  Server Types
                                  1.  Main HQ server
                                         a.  The biggest and baddest computer run by the faction.
                                         b.  Only the most powerful hacker is put in charge of this machine.
                                         c.   In addition the hacker must be of a certain minimum rank.
                                  2.  Regional branch
                                         a.   Larger server in charge of a geographic region
                                               1.  North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Russia
                                         b.   Mid level hacker minimum rank required.
                                 3.   Principal branches
                                         a.   Mid range servers that represent larger metropolitan areas.
                                               1.  Europe Region could have
                                                          - Paris, London, Madrid, Rome
                                               2.  North America region could have
                                                          - New York, Chicago, Montreal, Dallas
                                         b.   Lower level hackers
                                 4.   Minor branches (public Servers)
                                         a.   Smallest servers representing smaller cities and reporting to principal branches.
                                               1.  New York could have;
                                                         - Jersey City, Newark, Yonkers
                                         b.   Newbie hackers

What are you talking about?
412  HP Info Terminal / F.A.Q. / Re: /root/OS/os.sock on: July 30, 2009, 02:09:53 PM
Destroy the server.  But only if you have the mission for it.
413  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: New software ideas on: July 24, 2009, 11:52:18 AM
...you could say it is basically a browser that is only able to visit HP lol.

Anyway, just wanted to clear that up 14

So your program would act as a front end and you would play HP inside of it?  That's cool.

That would make the play and the utility seamless.  I like that a lot.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to imply that your tool would break TOS.  I did see comments that you were working with Sir Emi on it.

But, say if I or others were to create the same thing on my own.  That would be against TOS.

I don't mind the idea of these types of tools, but from past experience those in the know usually gain from them while those without suffer.

My suggestions were also to remove some of the tedious factor from copy/tab/paste/tab/paste situations.  I've always like more options in games than having to resort to outside tools.

Of course, that isn't to say that these options would be top priority in the programming cycle.  Which I do understand quite a bit about as I do work in an IT shop.  I specialize in Data Analysis aspect of programming and our to-do list is well into 2011.  New priorities come and old ones become obsolete quite frequently.  My suggestions are just that... Suggestions and basically become a RFC (Request for Comment) and if approved by the governing council of Jedi then prioritized as needed.

@brok - you know me so well  16

 laugh

I've actually been in same situation many times in other games.  Guild gets formed, leader falls of face of earth, and we have to disband and create new group.

Get's to be a big problem when guild banks, items and in this case servers are involved.  Plus, many get attached to their guild name.

Another possibility would be to have the ability to assign a co-owner of the guild.

A question though.  What happens to the group when the leader quits?  Does it give leadership to another or is the group locked?

Nice...  I'll upload some software for the newbies (at least more newbie than me) I've been helping and not have to worry about using my own bandwidth...

I'll admit to that...  Or spamming download while they are on and forcing them to kill 'em.   laugh

Touché....

Not really.  Just commenting on the 'Defeating the whole point of breaking into servers'...

Actually, I would like to see less emphasis on research and more on hacking into and acquiring software.

Perhaps missions that would direct you to a bit better version than what you already have.
  -  Mission would require you to
            - download to your server
-delete the program off of the source server.

It could even require you then to upload the program to a secure server.  Time intensive, but you would get a better program, AP and HPD out of the deal.  Basically you are supplying the 'stolen software' that the Software brokers are selling instead of them having free reign to everything out there.

Researching just seems too boring to me.  Queue up a few hundred research items.  Wait a couple weeks, pay big bucks and start over.  Not much hacking in that...

Nearly all my software acquisitions have been through hacking into other servers and other players gateways.  Unfortunately, most secret servers out there are so loaded with Bandwidth robbing virus's that it makes it much more difficult to hack your way into rank.
