What kind of virii?

The way virii capturing works is that if the virus breaker is of a higher version than the virus you're trying to capture, then you capture with a speed of 75sec/MB. If not, then the time increases exponentially.

I must be lucky. If I wanted to download a file at a faster speed, I would just disinfect the whole server(I did this a few times). I almost never got hacked. (I might just be lucky, or it might have to do with the fact that I was always online and ready to take measures against whomever hacked me.) 21 dunno

I got another question! Do logs get purged on a weekly basis or something? I noticed that some servers, like player servers have no logs after a time period, in fact I noticed this on one of my servers so I was just curious if anyone knew when they are purged?

One thing I would suggest is to create some missions for specific OS systems.  This would act similar to faction missions but would allow these newer players the ability actually complete some of the missions.

I agree with Brok Ironfist.

Good work, Exousia!!!

Two things I would like to see is the capability to have multiple patches installed on the same server, but not give as much benefit and having different servers(owned by you) run different operating systems.

A player is no longer protected when:
CPU>1100
OR
Bandwidth>10
OR
(not logged in for the last 7 days)

What one can DO on newbie:
- crack him / bounce / modify logs/ download / disinfect / capture / unhide / decrypt / set public / kill process  on the newbie

What one can NOT do on newbie:
- upload / delete / hide / encrypt / install

So you can still bully the newbies, but not that hard...  1

They can kill your processes, but unless someone is feeling extremely mean or has a good reason, they won't. I only kill newbies processes if they're trying to capture my virii, and I only kill that process.

You can have a MAX of 1050 MHz CPU.
You can have a MAX of 9 Kbs Bandwith.
DO NOT get 10Kbs BW if you want to stay under newbie protection.
DO NOT get 1100 Mhz CPU if you want to stay under newbie protection.
the newbie protection standards are for each individual server, so you could have one server which is out of protection and another which is still under it. It depends solely on the hardware of the individual server, not the cumulative hardware of the player.

Also, I have tested it for a while now and it works every time.

although it may seem to work - did you go back to those servers and check you did get what you thought you got ?
Yes, it does work every time. I have checked a few times. I got all the missions.
10  HP Info Terminal / F.A.Q. / Re: Automation on: September 29, 2009, 06:43:07 AM
Another thing, my macro would not work unmodified for someone else, simply because my IP Database is different from everyone else's.

Should I make it so I have to press a key after each step? Pressing one key over and over is easier than clicking and waiting over and over.

Also, I have tested it for a while now and it works every time.
11  HP Info Terminal / F.A.Q. / Re: Automation on: September 28, 2009, 08:49:38 PM
So, does that mean I can't use it, or just that I have to modify it?

Forbidden actions

(I) It is forbidden to use any type of software that can harm or interfere with the correct functioning of The Hacker Project.

(II) Forbidden programs

It is forbidden to use any bots or other ways of artificial stay online in the game. The same goes for programs that automates the actions of a player outside the mechanisms provided by the in game menu.
Using iMacros for Firefox (http://www.iopus.com/) I made a simple macro that accepts all of the missions from the 5 True Light Software Repositories(It got tiring, clicking the same buttons over and over). Is this legal? If not, I will discontinue its use immediately. If you examine the macro:
Code:

I think this automates the actions of a player inside the mechanisms provided by the in game menu. Plus, it only runs when I start it.

thx guys! i sorta figured out most of the basic gameplay from playing uplink (have you played it)
I beat the demo in a day 5. I liked it, but personally, I like this better.

They can hack you and see your processes (I think they can't even kill your processes) but they cannot upload virii to you and you will be fairly safe just bouncing in to other servers with protects down and using all your CPU for deletes for a while, so just go nuts and make sure you don't reach 1050 CPU or 10 BW until you have enough cash for an IP change and some protects running including a log deleter.

They can kill your processes, but unless someone is feeling extremely mean or has a good reason, they won't. I only kill newbies processes if they're trying to capture my virii, and I only kill that process.

You CAN have 1050 CPU and still be under newbie protection.

My advice is to upgrade to 9Kbs Bandwith and 1050 Mhz CPU in that order, as soon as possible. Then get at least 100 MB RAM because after you leave newbie protection, the amount of RAM you'll need increases exponentially with increasing versions of programs. Other than that, Exousia is 100% correct, follow his/her advice.  5

Also, secret faction missions get you more, but don't accept them until you know you have the software stated in the requirements for each mission, because I think you get punished or something if you take a very long time to do it.

15  HP Info Terminal / F.A.Q. / Re: Can I buy another server and stay under newbie protection? on: August 25, 2009, 09:07:17 AM

Honestly I don't think it matters all that much.  At the lower levels you really don't have much to offer the higher end players and generally it is pretty easy to track down anyone who hacks into your system.  Asking them politely to stop generally will work wonders.  You can also do an IP change if things get too difficult.

As long as you don't go around trying to install virii or deleting other players files  shifty they will tend to leave you alone for the most part.  Concentrate on getting some decent firewall and password protection and it will keep most of the other newbies out of your system.  I see that you are in the group [linux], they can give you a good start, plus I have put out some decent lower level files (which you have already started to download) that can help you out as well.

Keep your nose clean until you have the resources to attack, cover your tracks and you should be set.

If things get way out of hand a Hard Drive Formatting can let you start over software wise.

Thanks, Brok
Brok is 100% correct, also the newbie protection standards are for each individual server, so you could have one server which is out of protection and another which is still under it. It depends solely on the hardware of the individual server, not the cumulative hardware of the player.
Thanks, Exousia
I also want to thank Brok for his in-game help.
I thank you both for your help, and you should expect to see me out of newbie protection and rising in rank before the end of the month.

ok brok hes out of newb protect lets go get him :P
I'm not out yet, I've got to wait for a couple of virus disinfects to complete so I can have enough HPD
