It was started in public, and I couldn't care less. Now keep the thread on topic please.

Ok, let me list off a few things that strike me as odd, before we leave the "off-topic train."
1) You think it's wrong that people make more money than you.
2) You think communism is a good idea because people make more money than you
3) You're spending a significant amount of time playing an online game, despite the fact that you're wondering where food is going to come from. Maybe you should work more?

And now, back to our regularly scheduled broadcast.
The #1 account is for sale. Whoohoo!
33  General Category / HP History / Re: Do you want the number one account in this game? on: August 22, 2008, 11:57:15 AM
I think whoever takes over the account will actually do as well, if not better, than I'm doing. I only play about an hour a day... Someone who still seriously plays could do a lot more 1 I think you'll find the new owner more than a bit formidable for whatever you can throw their way >: )

As for you Arthur, people are selfish. It's a fact of life. Just because you don't want to donate or don't have the money doesn't mean that it's in any way wrong for others to do so, reward or no. Is it wrong for people to donate to charitable causes because of the tax break? No. Is it wrong for people to donate to an online game to get an edge? No. People would have to literally spend thousands of dollars buying hpd to make a significant difference, and $20 is very manageable for just about everyone. If you're too cheap to pay it, don't knock on those who appreciate a game enough to pay for it.

Well, that's what these forums are for. The equation is a simple one to figure out as well.
35  General Category / HP History / Re: Do you want the number one account in this game? on: August 22, 2008, 09:42:44 AM
You think donating is like cheating too. Awesome.

I realize this game is small, and I realize that you may not like the idea of someone being more powerful than you because they had a few bucks in their pocket... But how is that any different from me beating you without a few bucks in my pocket? The fact is that someone has to be #1. This auction is for anyone who wonders what it's like to be on top  5 Whoever buys it will get my MSN as well, and I'll give them some advice to help keep them in the #1 spot as well.

The way I see it, I've literally spent hundreds of hours on this game over the past few months. It's been fun, but sometimes it's been hard work. I've planned and plotted, and it's payed off. If this account sells for $20 (the cost of the Gold account), I'm making like $.25 an hour for my time. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

So there'll be a reset after all... I figured the game would come to that. Of course it's announced as soon as I decide to sell my account :D
37  General Category / HP History / Re: Do you want the number one account in this game? on: August 21, 2008, 04:38:14 PM
You could buy the account, format all the hard drives, and never collect on the virii - that'd be a great way to destroy me... Yeah.

Hey everyone,
I think my time at HP is coming to a close. Real life is starting to suffer from me playing this too much. If you're interested in my account, check out http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180280418274.

And before anyone flips out, there's nothing in the ToS against selling accounts, and I'm only offering the time I invested in the account anyways. Auction ends in 3 days.
39  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Process masking on: August 20, 2008, 05:18:41 PM
yes and no - even now, after 3 days a process is "untraceable" and people running an unmasker would still be able to fully see the file.
40  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: No inactivity on local processes on: August 20, 2008, 12:46:28 PM
Why would inactive accounts affect the servers? Since they're inactive, no one will be asking the server for the info.
41  General Category / HP History / Re: Project NEWBIE HELP on: August 20, 2008, 12:40:52 PM
I agree with most of what you said Raistlin but, if you look at the ID numbers, you'll see that I started significantly after you and still managed to come out on top. There were people both above and below me, but (at least imo) I played intelligently and so I grew faster than most people. Could a new player take the #1 spot? Yeah, I think they could. It'd take a while, and they'd have to play smart... So I agree that a clean sweep of pubs would be nice (that way the active low players have a chance, and the inactive's virii get wiped), but beyond that, we aren't helping them by giving handouts.
42  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Process masking on: August 20, 2008, 10:06:52 AM
Theraze, you mean whether you'd have to upload the masker before masking files? That would severely limit its usefulness, since people can download much faster than you can delete - that means mask one process and everyone could potentially get your unmasker.
43  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: No inactivity on local processes on: August 20, 2008, 10:05:21 AM
Yep, there aren't many reasons to have local processes time out, other than irritating us 1
44  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Allow users to change background color on: August 20, 2008, 10:04:46 AM
... you guys do realize that this whole thread was a joke, right? I mean, implement the idea if you want but

Ah, My post was more of a joke than anything, I can't force people to use it. Like you said, it's simply a suggestion. The formula was more for bigger suggestions anyways.

That being said, I can't wait for someone to use the formula with the smallest suggestion possible :P
45  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Process masking on: August 17, 2008, 11:57:21 PM
I like the idea of it being like the hider in that you run the process once and then it doesn't take up additional resources, because it's most convenient and would also make sense in that the location of the memory is changed, confusing the OS. I'd say AP cost is appropriate, although I think it should be minimal (around 5AP) because the process could *probably* still be killed. A higher AP would make sense if it did actually lock the process.
