Don't forget that Malware AV is tiny compared to the Malware.  It is only 600 MB to counter a 1.76 or a 2.93 Malware Viri

I don't know if you ever played Trade Wars 2002 or not but there was a guy in the game called "The Grimy Trader".  Among things like getting the PW for the underground and stuff he would also facilitate tracking down traders.

Now you may be wondering where I am going with this.

The Grimy Trader would not tell you where the trader was but only what ports he had visited and how long ago.

Could we implement something similar to this?  It would cost HPD.  Cost would be based on the power rank and how long since the hacker was at a server.  Then it would give that server (not the hacker's server) along with the general time stamp.  Say XX:XX:XX +/- 10 minutes.

It would also be a good way to remove HPD from the game as well.

If i remember correctly this was from a game i tried before. ( Don't ask since it was a year or two ago and I do not remember ) But it was similar because you could search for them and sell them for cash. But i like this idea since it is hard to earn money at first. Maybe only have the people sponsor you until you reach a certain powerlevel? It might make it too complex and realistic though..

I remember that game.  The Admin of that game ripped me off so I told him to f**k off and haven't gone back since.  It was Cyber Wars I think.  can't remember for sure.
724  HP Info Terminal / News & Updates / Re: anti-vius time decreased by 33% on: July 05, 2008, 07:37:38 PM
i still think that spyware needs to be of a significantly higher level to be able to inter-cept file sharing virii =/.

i mean, ones 9-10 gigs, the others 300meg or so...

Well, I'm pretty sure spyware exceeds the file share on consumed resources, and it's the only way at this time for smaller players to stop a higher player from power leveling and taking over all the bandwidth on the npc server.

Remember that if virii occupy all the bandwidth then anyone else will not be able to activate any more virii, so I think spyware because it consumes CPU and memory should be used to guard against that, and it's pretty balanced from my point of view. In the end, it will probably be a continuous war of who has the highest spyware and continuous disinfects of either the file share or the spyware...

Except that there is one problem.  File-Share will eat up available CPU and RAM before BW on some of the higher up systems I think.  Like the secret servers that are 500+BW for instance.

Sorry but that really is not enough.

To remove a .5 Spyware takes up CPU 750 RAM 112500

And it takes what 4+ hours to complete.

With a 700 MHZ CPU and Zero ram you can complete complete 7 200+ HPD missions.

So the pay off still is in favour of NOT doing the anti-virii missions.

After all is a person going to sit there and make 400 HPD roughly or 1400 HPD roughly???

And lets not even talk about the File-Share AV.

It may not seem like much pay, but you'll have to get rid of some virii in order to install new ones eventually.

So you have these advantages on AV missions:

- clear the way for your virii
- less competition, you know you'll get your HPD and others won't compete that much
- takes a while so it's less trouble when having more then one servers, you could have a main gateway to do missions, and one for disinfects
- and you earn HPD doing it, what more would you want  16

Well unless you make it so that only the highest version of each Virii works or to where you can't install more than 1 version of a virus on a system (which would then make it impossible for anyone other than 1 to have File-Share on each server) it does not matter how many virii are on a system unless there are no more resources left to run future ones.

Being that the person who wrote this decree quit the game.......

Yes this does make this game a lot cooler than the rest.

It will be very cool to see how things continue.  Heck I may even start sending Sir Emi some things in game that can be used.

IP Database -> Connect -> Running Software.

It's easy enough  1

Well since the OWNED servers do not start at the top of the list except your own it is more like

IP database -> OWNED -> Connect -> Running Software.

I know I am the only one with a 2nd server thus far (and trust me I would not have bought it had you not nerfed the NPC Servers /grin) and it is something that is a low priority but still just keep it in mind to do when the rest of the work load is low for you.

Heck Web/Domain Hoster?  I will buy another server just for something like this.

Wow I am honored.  But My old group pretty much broke up.
Some have quit
Some have decided to "lie" to the group and are now being hunted.
And so forth.

Although I am surprised there was no mention of the .5 adware that has started popping up on a Secret Icarus Server from an unknown source.

3-4 Secret servers pop-up each night.  Sadly that is far to many compared to the non-secret servers if you ask me.
733  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: Research on: July 04, 2008, 12:06:44 AM
Is there anyway to see what research is going on each Owned gateway?

Yeah if you change gateway or connect to the owned server...

Well I was looking more for an easier way.  Switching servers is a pain and I want to keep the connects as low as possible on the 2nd server.
734  Feedback Terminal / Suggestions / Re: taking over servers on: July 03, 2008, 08:19:25 PM
You used to be able to do this.  My group had control of 6+ secret servers.  But it was decided to change it so that player owned firewall's and password protects can no longer be ran on the NPC servers.

Now really the only way that you can "take over a server" is if someone gives you their server when they quit.
