All players start in Newbie Protection.

Newbie Protection stops anyone attacking you in any shape or form
On missions a note will say 'Player in newbie Protection' if the target is still under Newbie Protection

To leave newbie Protection

You have to be Level 10 or above
You must have 5 Hardware upgrades
You must have completed 20 missions

Also to stop Power Gamers attacking everyone a player cannot attack a person 20 levels lower than him or her, if a person attacks someone 20 levels or higher then he/she will loose Level Protection for 48 hours.

Thoughts?

That sounds like the best way to work in a newbie protection.

It needs to be more than this:

If you block people from attacking weaker people, the weaker player can attack Soviet, for example, with utter immunity to counterattack (48 hours? I bet I can buy some time).

If you guide Newbieness based on any set of requirements, I can just avoid meeting one of them, and get powerful elsewhere (I have low CPU speed, but can upload virii. I have low bandwidth, but take over virii, or run missions. I've never completed a single mission: all I've done is work with virii).

well it could be based on cpu and bandwidth.... let's say 2 x the starting amount, that way one can not abuse it by keeping a low CPU and high bandwidth to upload virs.

I don't see anyone with 1100 CPU cracking soviet...  14

Ok, I just need some input here... what is the protection?

My idea is this:

Requirements for newbie protection: CPU<1100 AND Bandwidth<10 (if one goes above then no more newbie protection)

Can DO on newbie:
- crack him / bounce / modify logs/ download / disinfect / capture / unhide / decrypt / set public  on the newbie

Can NOT on newbie:
- upload / delete / hide / encrypt / install / kill process

I realize some may not like this because they have lots of farms with that 0.166 adware but oh well...

If this is implemented those virs installed on those with newbie protection will be disinfected...

There is only like 15 poeple that can attack soviet so we don't need to worry about the newbies attacking him. Doubling the starting hard ware would greatly help the newbies. One more to help the newbies and some other players would be more missions. With more missions the fast poeple can go up. I do missions only on weekends cause thats the only time i can, but if there was more missions, for me it won't be so bad only doing them once a weak.

I like the Timer ending as well, perhaps a week or two. I haven't been playing for a week yet, and am far out of the other suggested standards for newbie status, and if people go inactive, anyone who managed to find them deserves to get a free virus farm.

he has a point, i think a period of inactivity would be a definite protection killer, this is how most games work( because it works!)

but maybe hardware until a certain amount of time......... or whichever comes first maybe?

I know that in Pardus the AP system is used for newbie protection, once you have spent a certain number of AP you are no longer protected.

Just a thought.  I do like the timer idea though because I do so love the inactive empty servers.  A week sounds good, especially with how little the AP system constrains the new players.

Yes, but there's no use for inactive newbies in Pardus. There are several (software repository, virus farm, neutral ground for software trades) in HP.

Ok, so this should be the protection requirements then.

He is no longer protected when:
CPU>1100
OR
Bandwidth>10
OR
(not logged in for the last 7 days)

This should protect him again if he logged back in from a period of inactivity...
