CTRL + Click FTW.

Without it I would probably shoot myself trying to play this game.  16

Oh yeah, this round has impressed me much more than the last two, faction missions are really doing the work for the moment.   13

Very nice, although I am going to miss those numbers, it was something I had come to expect to see when I open my list to pick a breaker, and now that their gone it's kinda startling  laugh

Personally I think there should be a seperate standing and reputation setup.

Reputation could control how likely you are to get an anti-hacker mission on you from a certain faction.  Can be positive or negative and anything you do on a faction server alters your reputation with that faction slightly (or not everything, or most things, up for debate and balancing and such)

Standing remains unchanged.

Then, you can gain standing up to 0 (but not above, so you can work back up to neutral but can't get good standing with them) for disinfects on a faction you aren't aligned with, but you could get positive rep and decrease their chances of putting an anti-hacker mission on you.

Hrm, like number of files deleted, number of bounce logins, number of virii installed?

Could just have an int for each, a bounce is 1, delete is 5, and virii installs are based on virii type and version, keep a counter going when it passes a certain number an IP change gets started so super high traffic systems will be the first ones to pop since the corps are going to be watching for that stuff.

... what about disinfect missions on other factions servers?

Then I would say installing virii should give negative standing.  I would set the standing gain/loss to be equal to the AP costs.

That would make the use of one of the SGP tactics given out during R1 a bit more interesting to use.  Since disinfecting costs half of what infecting does.

I agree wholeheartedly (and feel stupid for not remembering to include this in the original suggestion... dangit  laugh)

So installing a virii would give a negative rep hit equal to twice what disinfecting would give (which is easy to do since disinfect missions give give rep based on the payout of the mission, which is based on the virii type and size, etc)

I was thinking if not removing it, at least slowing down the returns and stretching it up to a higher peak...

If you have negative standing to a faction and wish to join them, you will have to work your standing up until it's positive. You won't gain ranks and abilities until you work your standing to a positive level. Think of it as community work 1

When you change faction, the skill % you learned from that faction stays with you and is active, but you won't be able to increase the skill until you rejoin that faction.

For example, if you have 2000 / 3000 standing, and change faction, you will lose that standing and have to start from newbie rank again when you come back. But, you won't lose the 1 ability point you got at 1000 standing.

Question.  If I switch from Icarus, resetting my standing to 0, and came back, would I get an ability point at 1000 faction again?

Also doesn't work for anti-virus, which leads me to believe it doesn't work for any "child" processes created by a software (decrypts, encrypts, hides, unhides, process traces, nmap scans... etc)

Disinfecting a virus on a faction's secret servers should award a small but decent amount of standing, whether or not you're a member of that faction.  Only makes sense, you're cleaning up their servers.

If I was working for Icarus but went around and disinfected a whole bunch of virii off TL servers they'd hate me a little less because I'm doing them a favor.  That way you can work to raise your standing a little with the other factions you aren't aligned with.

By the same token you can award a small standing decrease for deleting a file on a faction secret server, but that would make the beginning of a game a little difficult for everyone (but it makes sense, you're deleting a file off their servers).  Maybe a very, very small decrease.  Like very... very small.  1 or 2 points maybe.  So at the beginning of the game people are doing delete missions and the factions are starting to not like them so much until they start to do work for their chosen faction directly.

I think now that personal farms are gone the diminishing returns on research should be either removed or reduced.  Players won't be making nearly as much money next round as they were this round anyway so it seems pointless to stifle player growth so much at the high end.
